We made a tough decision recently and pulled Ridlee out of public school. She was becoming increasingly dysregulated at school and they were sending her home more and more. I was becoming increasingly upset at the lack of neurodiversity-affirming practices. She used to love school. They lost a paraprofessional in September yet they didn't understand the correlation in her behaviors. Many of the things they were doing were the exact opposite of what she needed when she became upset. That and the fact that the sensory room they got when she was a Kindergartener from a grant now consisted of 2 items and barely any time to use them. That and it was right outside of the IEP lead's office making it impossible for quiet and peace. I could go on and on. It was no longer a good fit and she has surprisingly been ok with being home and not going to school. I think she was suffering from burnout as well.
Since she has been home she has been back to her normal baseline, rarely having a meltdown. We use an online curriculum that is interactive and she has done well with doing it and it only takes her an hour or so each day to do it. We have started play therapy and are getting her set up with speech and Equine therapy for OT. She stays home with me 2-3 days a week and the other days we use a nanny until Kieran can start staying with her in mid-December. Plus they can watch her hopefully after Kieran has the baby for as long as needed. She also has a toddler daughter and Ridlee really likes when they come over.
